Medicine
Administration Policy
In compliance with national minimum standards for regulated childcare (revised March 2012)
Standard 11: Children are safeguarded by the settings policies and procedures about medication and receive the medication they need.
I am happy to give your child prescribed and non-prescribed medication (for example cough mixture, Calpol and teething gel) provided a signed parental permission form is held and said medication is provided by you clearly labelled with the child’s name.
I will ensure that all medicine supplied by parents is stored as required and is within its expiry dates.
All medicine must be in its original packaging with the manufacturer’s guidelines available. In the case of prescribed medication details of the doctor/pharmacy will also be required.
If your child has a self held medication (e.g. asthma inhalers) please provide an additional one to be kept on the premises to reduce the risk of loss or forgotten medication.
For the protection of all parties involved I must be informed of any medication given to your child within the last 24 hours including what, when and how much.
If your child requires a prescription medicine which requires technical or medical knowledge please inform me as soon as possible as training specific to the individual needs of your child may be required.
In the event of your child becoming ill and requiring medication, and although a permission form will be on file, I will contact you to check that I can administer the medicine to protect everyone involved.
I will keep a record of all medication administered, including quantities, in a book and a parental signature will be required when the child is collected.
This policy and the associated permission forms will be reviewed regularly.
