Equal
Opportunities Policy
All parents are welcome to apply for a place in my childminding service for their child or children. As per my admittance policy no child shall be refused admittance or discriminated against for reason of their or their parents’ gender, disability, sexual orientation, age, class, family status, religion, culture or appearance.
I will encourage the children in my care to learn more about their own culture, and that of other children, in a fun and creative way through the use of books, puzzles, toys, dressing up and food from around the world.
I will treat each child with individual and equal concern. Boys and girls will be offered the chance to experience the same toys and activities (except those that may pose a health and safety risk to younger children) there are no toys that are just for boys or just for girls.
I take into account each child’s age and stage of development, occasionally this may mean adapting an activity to the child’s ability by providing additional resources or giving one child more support than others depending on the activity.
I have equally high expectations of all children whatever their gender, racial origins or disabilities.
I will celebrate things that are special to each of the children in my care such as birthdays and religious festivals. I welcome the opportunity to learn about other cultures, language and festivals and would like to encourage children and parents to share these in order to enhance my own and other children in my care’s understanding and perception.
I will encourage the children in my care to develop a healthy respect of each other’s differences and to value everyone as an individual.
I will always challenge any remarks I feel are inappropriate, offensive or disrespectful of others, myself, my family or the children in my care.
I welcome all legislation such as the Equality Act 2010 and existing codes of practice produced by the appropriate commissions such as The Equality and Human Rights Commission.
I will strive to ensure that the environment encourages in children the development of independence and self esteem, as well as positive attitudes towards people who are different from themselves and the development of a sense of right and wrong.
