The health and safety of the children in my care is the most important thing to me, therefore I have in place the following procedures:
- All toys and
equipment are regularly checked and cleaned to ensure they are safe. Any broken
or hazardous items will be removed and/or replaced immediately.
- Children will
only be offered the use of toys and equipment that is suitable for their
age/developmental stage.
- Every morning a
visual risk assessment is completed to ensure my home is a safe environment for
the children.
- All low level
plug sockets have child resistant covers when not in use.
- The furniture in
my home have the relevant safety and fire labels confirming they conform to
British and European standards.
- I use safety
equipment that is appropriate for the children in my care such as stair gates
and cupboard locks which are inspected regularly by me.
- I follow hygiene
guidelines in my kitchen in relation to the storage of food such as keeping my
fridge at the correct temperature.
- To make sure
that the children are unable to access waste material the bins are emptied
daily.
- Nappies are double
wrapped and disposed of in the outside black bin.
- Smoking is not
allowed in my home at any time.
- When away from
my home children must stay with me. Small children will be strapped into a
pushchair or on reins. Older children will be expected to hold onto my hand or
the pram.
- I will always
have parents emergency contact details with me when away from my home.
- I will work with
parents to teach children about safety issues such as crossing the road and
personal safety.
- The children in
my care are discouraged from keeping secrets for everyone’s protection.
- If necessary I
will restrain a child if they are putting themselves or someone else in
imminent danger.
